I received books #3 and #5 in this series through a Library Thing giveaway. Because I prefer to read things chronologically, I bought this, along with #1 and #4 so I could have a better overview of the story line while reading and reviewing the books I won.I definitely suggest reading these books in chronological. While there are a few years between the end of one and the beginning of the next, there is a lot of information in the previous book that explains what is going on in the current book.
This book was a lot more polished than the first in the series. The characters were much more developed, the timeline made a lot more sense (ages vs the time elapsed), and overall the writing was a little cleaner. Honestly, the only writing bit that was a little *blech* to me was that the phrase "Something akin to..." was repeated every time a Shifter feature was described, such as their version of hugs.
As far as the plot goes, I thought it was an interesting concept. Not normally something I would have read in a book (more a movie plot for me), but I'm glad I won part of the series as it has been enjoyable. I liked the viewpoint from multiple characters (Shifters, Raul, Veena, Melissa, Hybrids) and feel it's going to be a good set up for the background of characters in future books. I look forward to reading the rest of the series.
Side note: I thought the part about the hobo spider bite was a bit far fetched (the irony is not lost on me, I know this is a book about aliens, haha). Hobo spiders are venomous, but not as described here, death would not be likely and definitely not that fast or in that manner.

Insurgent New Adult Alien Invasion Shifter Evolutions Book 3 eBook Ami Blackwelder Reviews
This is the 2nd book I read in this series, having started at the beginning. I find this book not any more well written than the 1st. The author would benefit greatly from a good editor and a few creative writing classes. For example, the author loves the word "puff" and all tenses of that word. The male characters spend a lot of time "puffing" their chests. In fact, a search reveals a lot of hits for the words, puff & puffed - most associated with males chests. I have to say - I've been married a long time; I have a brother; I have a nephew; I've worked with a lot of men over the years and I can honestly state that I've never noticed any of them puffing their chests.
This is just plain bad writing. As I said, this author really needs some writing classes.
*Note This series was actually started in the middle with The Shifters of 2040 and she left it to the reader to choose which way to go, past or future. I prefer to read in order so I started from the VERY beginning with The Invasion of 2020*
As I said in my first review
"I loved this book from the get-go. I feel like I was taken on a roller-coaster ride of emotions, at one point my heart was literally racing."
"I liked the different perspectives from nearly every character at some point."

I still love this series. The SCM of 2030 isn't quite as fast paced as The Invasion of 2020 was but that's ok.....I have a feeling a bigger stage is being set.
My heart aches for so many......the hybrid children, their innocent "loves" made me smile but then brought me to tears; the elders Golden Beam and Bronze Beam, so much on their shoulders. New hybrids that are abandoned and need to be found, will they be found in time? Colonel Raul and Veena............And Sun Light..........
There's so much I want to say but I won't because I don't want to spoil. It's a great read and cannot wait to start the next book. I didn't get my dose of Uri like I had wanted, but Ami has assured me that I will see him soon ;)
